Hockey Club Website Redesign

Client: Stirling Wanderers Hockey Club
Role: Web Designer & Developer, Technical Consultant
Platform: Wix
Additional Support: Domain migration, digital planning

The Challenge

The hockey club’s previous website had been edited over time by various community members, often without technical experience. This led to a disjointed and confusing structure, inconsistent design, and poor mobile usability. The colour scheme clashed, key information—like membership pricing—was missing or hard to find, and overall, the site failed to reflect the spirit and professionalism of the club.

The issues weren’t limited to a small group—feedback from across the club made it clear that the site wasn’t fit for purpose. Many had lost confidence in both the website and the Wix platform itself. On top of that, the club’s domain was managed by a third-party provider with rising annual fees and little clarity around ownership or support.

Project Goals

  • Rebuild the website with a clean, modern, and mobile-friendly design

  • Create a clear and logical structure for key content: Teams, Fixtures, Membership, News, Contact

  • Refresh the visual identity with a bold, appropriate colour scheme

  • Migrate the domain to a more cost-stable, on my system

  • Make the site manageable for community members with less technical background

  • Begin planning longer-term improvements to email hosting and digital tools like Google Workspace

What I Did

  • Full Redesign in Wix: Rebuilt the website from the ground up using clean, structured layouts and updated branding

  • Content Overhaul: Clarified and restructured key sections, including accurate and accessible membership information

  • Mobile Optimization: Ensured the site works seamlessly on phones and tablets

  • Visual Refresh: Edited the colour scheme, removing the orange and opting for club colours; blue and white and added consistent styling to reflect the club’s identity

  • Domain Migration: Moved the domain away from an overpriced provider to a reliable, long-term solution with no annual price hikes

  • Community-Focused Editing Tools: Set up templates and editing guides so future updates can be made easily by any club member

  • Digital Planning Support: Began discussions around separating website and email hosting, and helping the club make better use of tools like Google Workspace (planned for future phases)

Results

  • A fresh, usable website that represents the club’s values and energy

  • Key information is now easy to find and access on any device

  • Domain management is now cost-stable and under club control

  • Strong positive response from club members, with renewed trust in the site and its capabilities

  • Future plans in place to improve email systems and make better use of existing tools like Google Workspace, for me to provide ongoing support.
